Beauty in your 30’s and 40’s

THE GIRLS ARE IN THE HOUSE

Ever wonder what life is like in your 30’s and 40’s when it comes to beauty? Just take a look at these three Hollywood beauty’s who are living proof that getting older really does mean getting better.

Courteney Cox seen here with Demi Moore and best pal Jennifer Aniston is on the cover of this months Marie Claire. Not only is she absolutely gorgeous, but so hilarious and genuine when it comes to her candid thoughts on living in Hollywood, being a celebrity and the hang ups that most women have about getting older. Yes ladies even celebrities like Courteney Cox get a little insecure sometimes.

The oh so gorgeous Courteney Cox from the pages of Marie Claire Magazine this month.

The good news is 40 is the new 20 and there is no time like the present to take that yoga class you have been wanting to try (we just loooove Bikram), going on that hike with your best pal, changing your hair color or hair style and yes ladies wearing a sexy, smoky eye just because you can.

Today and everyday celebrate you!! Take time for you and remember “it is not how old you are, but how you are old.” My dad told me this on my 40th birthday and I never forgot it.

More Sexy Smoky Cat Eyes

Rachel McAdams Red Carpet Smoky Eyes

Rachel McAdams blazed the red carpet this week with shimmer-rimmed eyes topped by loads of matte charcoal smoky shadow. Her eyes purred with perfection and she got a big thumbs up from us for a super gorgeous smoky-cat eye.

Beth says it’s all about where you place the color that will give you the look you desire. She suggests mixing a dark chocolate and charcoal eyeshadow together and applying from the outer corner of eye using a soft eye shadow brush. Bring it back toward the iris and blend into the crease to create the smoky-cat eye look seen here on Rachel.

An even easier way to get this look is to use the cat eye Stencil from the Get in Line Eyeliner Kit (both shadows included) placing it higher on the eyelid will give you a thick and smoky cat eye with a strong point on the outer eye like Rachel’s. Soften the edges with your eyeshadow brush and finish with an icy shadow near the inner corner of the eye that extends to the iris and sweep the color on the lower lashline too. Try Abyssinia, a delicate pearl sheen shadow from NARS.

For added eye popping appeal use a black gel eyeliner to line along the lashline. Apply to the outer eye area and blend into the center of eyes rather than lining the entire eye. Repeat the same on the bottom. Try Onyx Stay Put gel Eyeliner, $18 at bethbenderbeauty.com

You’ve got sexy smoky cat eyes baby!

Celebrity Beauty - Oscars 2008

Red Carpet Beauty – The Oscars 2008

Marion Cotillard strikes a pose

This was one of my favorite looks for hair, make up and wardrobe. Marion looked absolutely stunning in this Jean Paul Gaultier gown. She stood out amongst many of the starlets that night with her gorgeous cat eyes and cascades of sexy loose curls that framed her beautiful face.

To get Marion’s cat eyes start by adding some color to the eyelids first using a silver shimmer shadow. Try Vincent Longo’s Eye Shimmer Souffle in Pavlova, $24 at vincentlongo.com. It’s crease free and stays true for hours, perfect for red carpet beauty. For perfect cat eyes that will have everyone purring, try the Get in Line Eyeliner and Stencil Kit from beth bender beauty. Each kit comes with a cat eye stencil and a smoky eye stencil. Follow the instructions included and create sexy cat eyes as seen here on Marion.

Give your lashes two coats of mascara focusing on the outer lashes and making sure to coat the top of lashes too for extra length and volume. Try LashBlast mascara in black from CoverGirl.
Give the cheeks a touch of color in a light berry hue and apply with a brush swirling the color around the apple of cheeks before blending up and into the hairline. Try Daisy powder blush, $26 from beth bender beauty.

Complete the look with a berry-red lip color. Try Vincent Longo’s Velvet Riche lip color in Rain Dance, $23 at vincentlongo.com. For fuller looking lips apply a lip pencil first and blend the liner into the lips. add a touch of gloss to the center of lips for extra pout appeal.

Celebrity Beauty - Oscars 2008

Red Carpet Beauty – The Oscars 2008

Heidi Klum sparkles on Oscar night!

Heidi Klum’s stunning red carpet look was made even more beautiful with her bold smoky eyes and bronzed cheeks. We loved the silver shimmer shadow on her eyes that lit up her face and made her one of our favorite red carpet beauties.

To get Heidi’s look start with a shimmer shadow in silver and apply to the eyelid and into the crease making sure to blend the color into the inner corners of each eye as seen here. Take the same silver shimmer shadow and sweep under the eyes before adding your black eyeliner. Try NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Paris. Use the silver shimmer on the eyelid and contour the crease of eye with the matte gray shadow as seen here on Heidi.

Finish with a black gel liner and begin applying right above the inner corner of top eyelid extending the liner out beyond the lashes. For the best results use a thin and tapered eyeliner brush and tap along the lashline. Try Onyx Stay put Gel Eyeliner, $18 at bethbenderbeauty.com. Bring the gel eyeliner underneath each eye at the outer corners and blend into the lashline.

Finish with a fabulous black Mascara and some false eyelash clusters to complete Heidi’s dazzling eyes. Apply one coat of mascara before adding the lashes to create a platform that will make them easier to slide in. Try Diorshow Mascara in Black, $24 at Sephora and sephora.com. Try Ardell Lash Clusters for sexy peeper’s that will have heads spinning. Available at most drugstores and beauty supply stores.

Give your cheeks a beautiful bronzed glow with Soak up the Sun Bronzing Powder, $26 at beth bender beauty. A favorite backstage at the Oscar’s this year. Swirl the color on the apple of cheeks with a powder brush and blend along the cheekbones for a flawless application. To finish add a touch of bronzer to the bridge of nose and forehead.

Finish with a pale pink shimmer lipstick, or lip gloss to compliment your beautiful smoky eyes. Try Paris is Burning from beth bender beauty, a pink beige shimmer gloss or Laura Mercier’s Pink Dawn Lip Shimmer , a light nude pink $22 at Lauramercier.com.

You’re red carpet ready gorgeous!

Red Carpet Beauty – The Oscars 2008

Jennifer Garner’s sexy smoky eyes

There was no shortage of sexy smoky eyes, alluring cat eyes, pale pink shimmer lips and red lips at this years Oscars. Our favorite beauties did not disappoint us as they made their way down the red carpet. We were loving all of the make up and hair and especially the different variations on the smoky eye and cat eye. Starting with Jennifer Garner who looked lovely in a black strapless gown, gorgeous diamonds and smoky eyes that sparkled almost as much as her accessories.

Her make up was beautiful and we loved her smoky eyes done in a shimmery bronze, with a strong gel eyeliner in Black. To get Jennifer’s look start by sweeping a bronze cream shadow over the eyelids and into the creases blending out towards your temples. Try Bronze Shimmer Cream Shadow, $18 at bethbenderbeauty.com.

Next line the outer half of the upper eyelids with Onyx Stay Put Gel Eyeliner. Making it thicker as you line towards the outer part of eye as seen here on Jennifer. Smudge the line with a Q-tip or brush and and extend the line slightly up and out beyond your lashes. You can also add a touch of gel liner in Onyx in between you bottom lashes using a thin a tapered brush. Keep the line soft and smudge with a Q-tip to avoid a heavy line.

To make your red carpet look even more eye popping add a few false lash clusters to the outer ends of each upper lashline. Our favorite’s are the Andrea or Ardell Lash clusters and the must have glue if you can find it is the Sherani Eyelash Adhesive. The best we’ve ever tried.

Finish with two coats of rich black mascara. Best for your red carpet look and our favorite is Shu Uemura's Basic Black Mascara, $27 at Sephora and Sephora.com.

Lots of celebrity beauty style to share with you so check back in with us on Wednesday when we will be giving you the most popular looks that made their way down the famous red carpet.

The big color last night was red. Red gowns, red lips, rosy red cheeks and lots of bling. Gorgeous smoky eyes in light bronze and pewter tones, pale silver shimmer, heavy black liner and cat eyes, still going strong.

It was a beautiful evening and thankfully no rain so everyone's make up & hair look gorgeous. A big thumbs up to all of the make up and hair stylists who really shined last night!

Hollywood Sizzles At The Oscars

Red Carpet Beauty

Count Down To Tonight’s Oscars

Give me sexy cat eyes like Alicia Keys please!

As we continue our celebration on beauty and get ready for tonight’s Academy Awards here is another favorite of ours, the always beautiful Alicia Keys. Seen here looking simply sexy in her very perfect and striking cat eyes. This look is all about the eyes baby and to get these gorgeous cat eyes we suggest using the Get in Line Eyeliner Kit. You can create cat eyes as thick as Alicia’s seen here or as thin as you like using the cat eye stencil that comes in the kit. Beth’s beauty tip: Apply a black gel eyeliner over the cat eye and keep the color from smudging and budging all night long. Try Onyx gel Liner and apply with a tapered eyeliner brush.

Add some extra sizzle with a silver shimmer eye shadow and apply it to the inner corners of your eye lids. Try Double-O- Silver, $16 at beth benderbeauty.com.

Beth’s little beauty tip: Dampen the brush before applying the shimmer shadow for color that will outlast the night. Finish with a fabulous mascara and apply two coats. Our latest fav is Fiberwig, new from Japan and only available at Sephora.

Stay Put Lips - Hollywood Style

RED CARPET READY LIPS

Keep your lip color looking red carpet ready for hours with these quick tips from Beth. Instead of filling your lips in with a lipstick try using a water-proof lip liner. We like Make Up Forever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencils, $16 at Sephora. For lips like Blake Lively try Red 8C a true red lip pencil.

Once you’ve finished filling your lips in give them some extra Hollywood glam with a high shine gloss. Try Reddy Freddy gloss from beth bender beauty and a favorite of Liv Tyler.

When Smoky Eyes Aren’t Smoky

Smoky eyes when overdone can sometimes become overpowering as in the case of Hayden Panettiere and Sharon Stone, see here sporting smoky eyes some might call raccoon eyes.

To avoid this look make sure to only apply eyeshadow onto the eyelid and blend into the crease of eye so that the color is slightly above the crease. Do not apply a dark color into the corner of eye and high above the crease as seen here on Sharon Stone. Instead use a lighter shade and blend with the darker color for a more polished look.

Avoid heavy thick eyeliner around the entire eye. Instead line the eyes so that the outer part of the eye is thickest and becomes more tapered as you get closer to the inner corner of eye, as seen here below on Hilary Duff.

If you’re using a Gel eyeliner or pencil to line the eyes you can set the color with an eyeshadow of the same color or a lighter shade. This will also soften the line and give the eyes a more sultry look. Not sure where to place the color? Having trouble trying to get the smoky eye look? Check out Beth’s Get in Line Eyeliner & Stencil Kit designed to help create smoky eyes with ease.

CELEBRITY BEAUTY - THE SAG AWARDS

BEAUTY WATCH – THE SAG AWARDS

AMANDA BYNES

Amanda Bynes has really grown up and I just loved her whole look from top to bottom. Her hair, flawless make up and gorgeous gown from Marchesa. Her eyes looked beautiful and very striking. My kind of look.

To capture Amanda’s gorgeous make up start with the eyes first. Focusing on the outer corner as seen here. Using a coffee shimmer shadow, try Ambra Eyeshadow $16 from Beth Bender. Apply color from the center of eye and extend out making slightly heavier at the ends. Take the same color and sweep under the eyes as seen here.

With a lighter shimmer shadow and clean brush apply color from the inner corner of the eye to the center of eye and blend well. I like Bobbi Browns Champagne Shimmer Shadow. It goes on like butter and blends easily. Take the same Champagne color and apply to the bottom corner of inner eye and brow bone to give the eyes a polished look.

For eyes that look even more dramatic line as close to the lash line with a black gel eyeliner. It will make you lashes look even thicker and give the eyes a super sultry look. I like Onyx Gel Liner from beth bender beauty. Plus it’s water resistant, smudge-proof, and stays put all night long.

For the face keep the skin sheer and light with color. Use a tinted moisturizer to give the skin an instant glow. Try Stila’s Illuminating Tint Moisturizer, $28 at Sephora. Add a touch of powder blush in Desert Rose, $20 from Bobbi Brown. This color is gorgeous, looks great on gals with fair skin or olive undertones and stays put for hours.

Finish with a pink lip gloss and you’ll be ready to walk the red carpet. May we suggest Tallulah from Beth Bender Beauty. Our newest High Shine glam gloss for the spring and my new favorite too.

CELEBRITY BEAUTY - THE SAG AWARDS

BEAUTY WATCH – THE SAG AWARDS

GREY’S ANATOMY ELLEN POMPEO

Also on the red carpet strutting her stuff was Ellen Pompeo looking absolutely stunning in a Nina Ricci Gown. Her makeup and hair complimented this strapless gown and as always her brows looked perfect. Ellen’s eyes were smoky but done in champagne and amber tones which gave them a much more sultry look.

To get Ellen’s look start by grooming your brows first and then working you way down and finishing with the lips. I love Anastasia’s eyebrow stencils and stencil kit. They are so easy to use and come with step by step directions so you can’t go wrong.

Once you have decided on the perfect template that suits you brow shape fill in with a brow color and remove any hairs that fall outside of the shape. If you prefer a stronger brow you can add more color with the stencil still over the eyebrow.

Next we move to the eyes. Choose something with a shimmer as seen here on Ellen. I mixed two colors using Ambra Eye Dust and a bit of Ginger. I like to use my fingers first to apply color to the eyelid and then go back and blend with an eyeshadow brush. Especially if the lid is slightly shiny the color grabs and helps with placement. If you have questions about where to place the color you can use the Get in Line Smoky Eye Kit to help with this. Using a tapered eyeliner brush sweep some Ambra Eye Dust under the eye as seen here on Ellen.

To ensure that your eyeliner will stay put I suggest using a Gel Eyeliner instead of a liquid or powder. They are water and smudge resistant and once they dry they don’t move. Try Onyx Gel Liner, $18 from beth bender beauty. Make sure to get as close to the lash line a possible when applying the gel liner. You can tap some color in between your bottom lashes too but keep it on the softer side.

For fabulous red carpet lashes all night long try Shu Uemura’s Basic Black Mascara, $27 at sephora.com It’s a gel base formula that keeps the lashes from smudging and can be re-applied without clumping.

For the face I like Bobbi Brown’s Foundation Sticks, $40 at bobbibrown.com. They’re perfect for evening out the complexion without feeling too heavy. Plus you decide how much and where. I don’t recommend them for someone whose skin is extremely oily, instead an oil free liquid foundation would work best.

On the cheeks try try Cheek Duo in Pink Glow, $24 from Stila. It adds a delicate flush as seen here on Ellen. Finish with a sheer coral or warm peach lip shade that will balance your beautiful smoky eyes. Try Olympia Rose a nude-peach lip color, $26 from Vincent Longo. I used this color on a shoot last week and fell in love with it!!

Stay tuned for more celebrity looks from the SAG Awards and fashion week in NYC. The hottest runway looks and how to get them.
